Stormbreaker is one of the most powerful weapons ever seen in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it isn’t necessarily the strongest. Introduced in Avengers: Infinity War, the enchanted axe was forged in Nidavellir from Uru metal and designed to channel the power of a king. It instantly established itself as a weapon capable of feats that few other artifacts from the MCU timeline could match.
Thor used Stormbreaker to overpower Thanos’ energy blast from the completed Infinity Gauntlet, nearly kill the Mad Titan, summon the Bifrost at will, and unleash devastating lightning attacks on entire armies. Unlike Mjolnir, Stormbreaker lacks the worthiness enchantment imposed by Odin, making it a fundamentally different weapon. Its immense power comes from its construction, its magical properties, and its connection to Thor himself.
Across multiple MCU movies, from Infinity War to Avengers: Endgame and Thor: Love and Thunder, Stormbreaker has repeatedly proven why it sits near the top of Marvel’s hierarchy of powerful objects. However, the MCU has introduced several artifacts whose capabilities extend beyond raw destructive force. While Stormbreaker remains among Marvel’s greatest weapons, a handful of artifacts have demonstrated abilities that place them on an even higher level.
The Wand Of Watoomb
First appearing in Doctor Strange, the Wand of Watoomb is one of the Masters of the Mystic Arts’ most formidable relics. The artifact serves as a conduit for extraordinary magical energy, allowing its wielder to project powerful blasts and manipulate mystical forces.
During the battle against Kaecilius in Doctor Strange, the Wand of Watoomb demonstrated enough power to hold its own against highly trained sorcerers wielding dangerous dark magic.
Unlike Stormbreaker, which is primarily a combat weapon, the Wand can be used for numerous magical applications depending on the user’s skill and knowledge. This adaptability makes it particularly impressive. That said, its effectiveness is heavily dependent on the person wielding it.
A novice sorcerer would struggle to unlock its full potential, whereas Stormbreaker remains devastating even when used primarily as an axe. The Wand’s placement above Stormbreaker comes from its broader range of mystical capabilities, but its limitations prevent it from climbing higher.
The Ten Rings
The MCU transformed the Ten Rings from their comic book counterpart into one of Marvel’s most impressive weapons in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Wenwu used the Rings for centuries, conquering kingdoms and building a criminal empire that survived for generations.
The artifacts grant superhuman strength, enhanced durability, concussive energy blasts, and an apparent extension of the user’s lifespan. The Rings also proved powerful enough to destroy entire armies. During the climactic battle at Ta Lo, Wenwu’s attacks shattered structures and sent enemies flying across vast distances.
Shang-Chi later demonstrated that the Rings possessed abilities even their longtime owner never fully understood. Unlike Stormbreaker, the Ten Rings do not rely on physical strikes to be effective. They can be launched, controlled remotely, used defensively, and employed as ranged weapons.
The MCU has also repeatedly emphasized that nobody understands where the Rings came from. Wong, Bruce Banner, and Captain Marvel were unable to identify their origin, while scans revealed they are vastly older than Wenwu’s thousand-year ownership. The Rings also emit a mysterious beacon whose destination remains unknown. This suggests that there’s even more power in the Ten Rings that could be revealed in the MCU’s future.
All-Black The Necrosword 
Gorr the God Butcher’s weapon in Thor: Love and Thunder was specifically designed for one purpose: killing gods. All-Black the Necrosword originated from a dark cosmic force and immediately transformed Gorr from a grieving father into one of the MCU’s most dangerous villains.
The sword granted him immense strength, enhanced durability, shadow manipulation, teleportation abilities, and the power to create monstrous creatures from darkness. Unlike Stormbreaker, which amplifies Thor’s natural abilities, the Necrosword fundamentally altered its wielder.
Most importantly, the Necrosword achieved exactly what its name promised. Before the events of the film, Gorr used it to slaughter numerous gods across the universe, building a reputation that terrified divine beings on multiple worlds.
Its greatest weakness was its corruptive influence. The sword slowly consumed Gorr and accelerated his physical deterioration. Even so, a weapon capable of empowering an ordinary mortal to challenge gods places itself firmly among the MCU’s elite artifacts.
The Darkhold
The Darkhold is not a weapon in the traditional sense, but its destructive potential exceeds that of almost any physical object in the MCU. Appearing prominently in WandaVision and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the Darkhold contains forbidden knowledge derived from the dark entity Chthon.
Simply reading the Darkhold grants access to immensely powerful magic. Wanda Maximoff used the book to master abilities that allowed her to dreamwalk across realities and challenge the combined might of Kamar-Taj’s sorcerers. Agatha Harkness used the Darkhold to penetrate, and even influence, Wanda’s Westview illusion without being noticed.
The danger of the Darkhold lies in its limitless potential. While Stormbreaker can destroy enemies, the Darkhold can corrupt universes, reshape reality, and unlock powers that affect entire dimensions.
Its downside is equally significant. Every Darkhold user becomes corrupted by its influence. Yet the sheer scale of the magical abilities it grants places it comfortably above conventional weapons, including Thor’s mighty axe.
The Book Of Vishanti
If the Darkhold represents ultimate corruption, the Book of Vishanti represents its opposite. Introduced in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the legendary text contains the solution to virtually any problem. According to MCU lore, it was created as a counterpart to the Darkhold and possesses immense magical power.
The book of Vishanti’s greatest strength is not raw destruction but limitless possibility. Rather than granting specific attacks or abilities, it provides exactly the power needed to overcome a challenge.
That concept alone makes it extraordinarily dangerous. Doctor Strange spent much of Multiverse of Madness attempting to obtain the book because it potentially offered a way to stop Scarlet Witch regardless of how powerful she had become.
Although the Book of Vishanti was destroyed before its full capabilities could be explored, the implications of its existence suggest a level of power that surpasses almost every other mystical artifact in Marvel’s cinematic universe.
The Infinity Gauntlet
For years, the Infinity Gauntlet was the ultimate MCU weapon. The completed Gauntlet allowed Thanos to harness all six Infinity Stones simultaneously, granting control over time, space, reality, power, mind, and soul. No other weapon in MCU history has produced consequences on the same scale.
With a single snap, Thanos erases half of all life in the universe in Avengers: Infinity War. Later, Hulk used the Gauntlet to restore those lives, while Tony Stark employed it to destroy Thanos and his army.
Stormbreaker famously injured Thanos despite the completed Gauntlet, but Thor was unable to kill Thanos or stop the Snap. Stormbreaker only managed that because of Thor’s inherent powers and intense determination.
The Infinity Gauntlet’s ability to alter universal reality places it far beyond any conventional weapon. Only one MCU artifact has demonstrated a potentially greater level of power.
The Time Ripper
As seen in Deadpool & Wolverine, the Time Ripper immediately became one of the most terrifying pieces of technology in the MCU. Created by the rogue TVA agent Mr. Paradox, the device was designed to destroy an entire universe by tearing apart its space-time matrix.
Paradox planned to use it to erase Earth-10005, the reality of Fox’s X-Men and Deadpool films. The threat escalated dramatically when Cassandra Nova seized control of the machine. She attempted to redirect its power to wipe out the entire multiverse and leave only the Void under her rule.
That scale of destruction is what elevates the Time Ripper above every other MCU weapon. Stormbreaker can kill gods. The Infinity Gauntlet can reshape a universe. The Time Ripper threatened countless universes simultaneously, making it a danger to reality itself rather than a single timeline.
The only way to stop the machine was for Deadpool and Wolverine to overload its matter and antimatter power streams with their own bodies, destroying the Time Ripper and preventing the collapse of the multiverse. No other weapon in the MCU has come closer to erasing literally everything.
