R. Martin’s best-selling book series of murders, betrayals, and complex characters has been powerfully translated to the small screen here thanks to its huge Hollywood-level budget and A-list stars. It follows several notable leaders in the land of Westeros fighting for control of the crown while an ancient undead evil awakens in the north.

It has been hailed as one of the most gripping, must-watch shows for much of the 2010s, a highly anticipated series every year from 2011 to 2019. Martin’s story was mostly faithfully adapted; the characters were rich and compelling, and played by mostly unknown actors at the time who have since risen to notable success. The action is tense, beautifully set up, and filled with stunning visuals. You get a great scope of this world and can feel immersed in it. Now, is it entirely perfect? Well, fans and critics do agree the show runners fumbled the last two seasons, but it was, for the most part, expertly told and made a splash in pop culture.
